Aluminium Electrical Enclosures

Aluminium Electrical Enclosures

IP Enclosures’ aluminium electrical enclosures are specifically engineered to protect low voltage equipment, including switchgear and controlgear assemblies, in highly corrosive environments such as marine and coastal locations. These enclosures offer an ideal balance of strength, lightweight construction, and exceptional resistance to corrosion.

Electrical enclosures deployed in coastal and marine environments are exposed to salt spray, high humidity, strong UV and fluctuating temperatures. These conditions accelerate corrosion and structural wear, making material selection critical. To ensure Protection in the Toughest Conditions™, IP Enclosures utilises marine grade aluminium, a structural alloy engineered for strength and durability in aggressive environments.

Marine grade aluminium offers superior resistance to seawater and atmospheric corrosion. Its natural oxide layer provides long-term protection against chloride attack, while the specific temper delivers an optimal balance of mechanical strength and ductility. This allows enclosures to withstand impact, vibration and mechanical load without brittleness, ensuring reliable performance in exposed outdoor locations.

All aluminium enclosures are finished with a durable powder coat system, which adds a secondary barrier against UV degradation, abrasion and salt-induced corrosion. Powder coating also protects cut edges and welds, extends service life, and reduces ongoing maintenance while preserving appearance over time.

Thermal conductivity is another significant advantage. Aluminium efficiently dissipates heat from internal components, helping reduce hotspots and stabilise operating temperatures. In high-power installations or locations with direct solar loading, this property supports equipment performance and extends component service life.

IP Enclosures’ aluminium products are fully compliant with IEC/EN 62208 and IEC/EN/AS 60529, achieving IP66 ingress protection and IK10 impact resistance. By combining the proven durability of marine grade aluminium with high-performance powder coating, these enclosures deliver reliable protection for electrical and communications equipment in the most demanding marine and coastal applications.
